Incumbents in this classification operate
vehicles
and other equipment with specialized functions to complete job tasks for the Waste Resources Division of the Public Works Department. Classification is reserved for those positions where driving and operating of included equipment is the primary function of the job.
WORK LOCATION: Moccasin Bend Wastewater Treatment Plant (Sewer Maintenance)
Examples of Duties:
Operates various equipment and vehicles to complete tasks related to the maintenance, upkeep, installation and construction of City grounds, property, utilities, rights-of-way and other infrastructure for Public Works and Parks & Recreation operations; drives vehicles over public roads, work sites, rights-of-way, parks, public works facilities and other City property; maneuvers in and around traffic, parked

, equipment, utilities and other obstacles; obeys all traffic laws and safety guidelines; monitors immediate environment and work area to ensure the safety of operator, other workers, the equipment and the public.
Operates a jet-flushing/vacuum/viewer truck for the purpose of cleaning out sanitary sewer drain pipe, manholes, catch basins and other brick and concrete drainage structures in order to maintain flow throughout the sanitary sewer collection system.
Operates a track or rubber-tired loader, excavator, skidsteer loader, backhoe, and bulldozer to load materials into trucks or move them over short distances; positions equipment and controls height, angle and position of scoop for optimum delivery of payload; controls amount and weight of materials being lifted to avoid exceeding equipment capacity. Operates heavy equipment to excavate sewer lines in close proximity of water, gas, telephone, fiber optics and other types of utility lines.
Inspects and prepares equipment for safe and proper operation prior to beginning work for the day; performs light maintenance on equipment which includes changing oil, refueling and refilling lubricants; cleans vehicles, beds and mounted equipment upon completion of assignments; secures vehicle after use.
Performs basic and semi-skilled labor as appropriate to assist in completion of maintenance, upkeep and construction projects; picks up paper, limbs and other debris; uses hand tools and operates motorized tools as necessary to complete assigned task; installs/maintains street signs and manually loads, moves and arranges materials.
Operates vehicles and equipment in lower classifications as needed or assigned to complete division or departmental projects and workload.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED and three (3) yearsof previous experience and/or training involving operation of related equipment in construction, utilities, public works or a related field or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.
Experience operating high pressure sewer cleaners is preferred.
Three (3) years experience operating an excavator stongly preferred.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Must have a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement N or X.
